Hello and welcome to my blog today, your just in time for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge. This week we have a fun sketch for you to play along with. For, my card I combined the new limited time set Blended Seasons and the wonderfully new Rooted in Nature (from the annual catalog). This was two fun sets to put together and play around with. Here’s a look at my card for today’s challenge.
The challenge will go live at 6:30 am EST this morning. Here’s a look at this weeks challenge. You can visit the challenge page to play along or to view what the other design team members came up with using this sketch by clicking here or by clicking on the challenge card below.
Tips & Tricks:
This card is chalked full of different techniques maybe just a few to many. I am going to share a couple with you today. First let’s talk about the main focal image, it’s not only colored with Stampin’ Blends but it’s also been embossed using the framelits that coordinates with each stamp set. You maybe asking well how did you do that? Well, it’s really easy with the new Big Shot Embossing Mats. I used the gray mat and the base plate to get the nice deep impression. If I were to use the blue mat the embossing would not have been as deep.
From the Nature’s Roots Framelits I used both of the leaves that were made for embossing. Using the embossing mats insures a nice clean image with little effort. The Maple leaf came from the Stitched Seasons Framelits (also a limited time only item). All the embossing was done after all the coloring and having cut the oval out using the largest oval die from the Layering Ovals Framelits.
For the sentiment I wanted to have some embossed image. So I used inked up the Be Strong, Be Happy, Be You sentiment in versamark, and immediately in Soft Suede ink. Once it was stamped I quickly added clear embossing powder and heated it. By doing this allows you to have color embossed image you would like.
Once all this was done I needed to add a little twine or ribbon to the card. I tried some of the copper trimmed ribbon from the tearoom combo pack, but it just wasn’t correct. I searched and searched my stash of ribbon but couldn’t come up with something I liked. Since nothing was the right color I decided to create the perfect color on my own. I took some of the Very Vanilla Solid Baker’s Twine and used my Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends and colored the twine myself. I colored it so that the twine was going from darker to lighter. Once it was dry, I could tie it on the card.
For the inside of the card I stamped three of the leaves from Rooted In Nature in Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, and Soft Suede at the bottom of the page. You can also see the transition on the twine from cherry cobbler to pumpkin pie in the picture below. I stamped the sentiment in Soft Suede. I matted the inside piece of a piece of Crushed Curry just a little larger than the inside piece.
