This week with the Paper Craft Crew we are celebrating Mardi, and it’s the theme for this week’s challenge. Each Design Team member has came up with a project all themed around Mardi gras. I sat down to figure out what I could come up with to do this challenge, I don’t have a mask stamp set, or anything with beads, or anything that you would typically think of for Mardi Gras. So I had to be very creative! Here’s the card that I came up with.
Here’s the challenge image for this weeks challenge.
Tips & Tricks:
I used the Tailored Tag Punch and punched out about eight tags in Daffodil Delight and Emerald Envy cardstock. Once I had these punched out I cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock to 5 ¼ x 4 and started laying out the design. This process took the longest time to try and get them placed in the right position. I started with the Emerald Envy cardstock tags and lined it up halfway up the Rich Razzleberry piece. Next I lined up the Daffodil Delight tag; I lined up each punch out starting at the points on the side of each tag. Once I had them lined up point to point I lined up the flat ends. Once everything was lined up perfectly I glued each tag down using the multipurpose liquid glue so that I had a little wiggle room before it dried to make sure everything was realigned perfectly. This method of lining everything up left the perfect Rich Razzleberry diamond between each color. This created the Harlequin pattern.
Once everything was dried I went and cut everything down to 5 x 3 ¾. I then matted this piece on a piece of Basic Black cardstock cut at 5 1/8 x 3 7/8. This was then matted on a piece of 5 ¼ x 4 Whisper White cardstock. This was then added to my Rich Razzleberry card base which was cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.
I stamped the flourish from the Timeless Texture stamp sent in the middle of the largest stitched oval cut out of a piece of whisper white cardstock in Rich Razzleberry classic ink. I layered this on a scalloped oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits dies in Emerald Envy cardstock. This was popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and placed in the center of the cardfront.
I die cut two of the Celebrate dies from the Celebrate You Thinlit dies (which is a Sale-a-bration item this year) out of Basic Black Cardstock and Gold Glimmer paper. Each was backed with a piece of multipurpose adhesive sheets attached to the back of the cardstock and glimmer paper before it went through the Big Shot so that it would be easier to adhere down to the card front. This is my go to for attaching any delicate or word die cut to a card. I love not having to pull out the fine tip glue or multipurpose liquid glue to attach these types of dies.
To finish off the card I added some of the gold sequins from the Metallic sequins assortments and a few small ones from the mini gold sequin trim that I pulled off and attached. This added just enough bling to the card when paired with the Gold Glimmer Paper die cut. I think that this just says Mardi Gras to me with the traditional pattern, and colors. The flourish is very New Orleans I remember seeing this and fleur de lis all over New Orleans when I went about 10 years ago.
I hope that you have enjoyed my card today and that you will take the time and play along with us this week.
