A couple of month’s ago I need a birthday card for a friend who just happens to be a music teacher. So I wanted something different and musical for his card. I had tried the music note background stamp but it just wasn’t correct for this card. Then I thought about the Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper with it’s traditional Christmas carols in English, French and German printed on the paper. The black and white was perfect and it had musical notes on it and it had sheet music so it was a win! I then had to decided on what type of card to do for my friend James’ birthday. So I wanted to try an Eclipse Card, and since it was his birthday I knew it would be a little hard never having really created one before but I was up for trying. Here’s a picture of today’s card.
I first came up with my card design. I wanted to do a long card because I knew I had to cut out the word HAPPY to do the Eclipse technique. So I cut a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock to 8 1/2 x 9 and scored it at 4 1/2. I then figured out the measurements for the other pieces. I cut a piece of Basic Black down to 4 1/4 x 8 1/4 and a piece of the Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper down to 4 x 8. Once I had then designer series paper cut out to size I could then start cutting my letters.
Once I had everything cut out for the card I started working on the letters. I cut out a set of the letters to spell happy in basic black cardstock and a set in the Designer Series paper. For the Happy on the Designer series paper I lined it up so that it was perfectly centered as much as possible and ran it trough the big shot. I find that the magnetic platform helps with this process. Once they were all cut out, I then layered these up together using the multipurpose liquid glue. I attached my designer series paper on to the basic black mat and added the foam strips behind each layered letter. I then pulled the backing off and layered them in correct hole. I pressed them in firmly and added this to my card base. I then inked up just the word birthday form the Feather Together Stamp set in Dapper Denim Classic ink and stamped it down on a scrap piece of whisper white cardstock. I created a flagged banner and attached it below the word happy.
Once I had finished the card I created an envelope using another sheet of the Merry Music Designer Series Paper and the Envelope Punch Board. To do this I just found the size of paper needed on the punch board and punched and scored on the lines that it told me for the size envelope needed. This is a tool that every cardmaker should have. It makes dressing up and creating envelopes a breeze. You can also use it for other things besides just envelopes.
