Saturday night we hosted a Pounding Party for a couple that we know and are friends with for their new home. For those of you that don’t know what that is, well it’s a house warming but instead of gifts that you normally bring to a house warming everyone brings a pound of something that you use in a new house. Like a pound of flour, a pound of sugar, or can food without the labels. You bring the can foods without the labels so that you never know what’s for dinner each night is a mystery. So we needed a card for our gift and to give for the couples new home. So I thought and thought about what to use. I went through the new catalog and remembered that I had the new At Home bundle so the problem was solved. After pulling out all the supplies for the card. I wanted to do something that represented them both. Here’s a look at my card for the party.
I picked the Red door because on their old house they had painted the door this color. And, I know they both love color. I stamped the images on whisper white cardstock for the lanterns, flower pots, and wreath. The door mat I stamped on a scrap piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and the door was stamped on a scrap of Cherry Cobbler cardstock. After I had everything stamped I cut everything out using the At Home Framelits.
The At Home Framelit dies let you create die-cut accents in seconds with the Big Shot. These framelits’ open design allows you to place them where you want for precise cutting. The smaller rectangle die lets you cut the door from the stamped image, well actually it cuts three sides of it so that it will open and close like a door. And, you can then stamp a message behind the door. Here’s a little look at that part of the card.
I stamped a simple congrats behind the door and the rest of the sentiment went on the inside of the card. This makes for a WOW card without a lot of work or fuss. I used a piece of the wood textures paper stack for the porch on the card. It too was just a scrap piece from another project that was cut to size. I popped the door frame up using the foam strips and popped the flower pots, and lanterns up using a stampin’ dimensional. I added some rhinestones to the wreath and one behind the congrats for a little bling. I added one of the gold enamel shapes to each lanterns so that it would shine. I did this because one of them loves bling and anything shinny, while the other loves wood and earthy elements, so the wood textures was perfect. Here’s a little video about this bundle by Stampin’ Up! to show you a few little techniques and tricks. If you are view this post by email you will need to go to my blog post and view the video.
This card was a show stopper at the housewarming the couple loved it and so did everyone in attendance. I am so glad that I got this bundle it came in handy when I was in a pinch trying to come up with something for their card.
