Hello stampers crafters and friends today I am sharing with you my card for this weeks Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge. This weeks challenge worked out really great for the card that I needed to create. My oldest niece got engaged over the last two weeks so I needed to start designing a card for them for their wedding day. They have been together for the last 17 years and have decided to make it official. So they will be getting this card on or before the wedding. Let’s have a look at my card for today shall we.
Here’s a look at this weeks sketch.
Tips & Tricks:
When I first looked at this weeks sketch I thought okay I know I am going to use the new daisy suite that’s coming in the upcoming catalog (which releases June 1). But, I wasn’t sure about the background. I didn’t want to do the sketch exactly how it was created, but I did want to create something similar. I looked around in my collection of stamps and finally settled on the Definitely Dahlia Background stamp. I stamped it on my whisper white cardstock and laid the daisy punch-out on top. That’s when I discovered that the petals mimicked the petals on the dahlia, so I attached the first punch-out using a mini glue dot and then added the next one on top just slightly offset so that it had some more dimension. I then bent up the petals just a little to add even more dimension.
So before I adhered my last daisy punch-out down I put a Stampin’ Dimensional behind it and placed it down adhering it to the card. This helped with adding the perfect amount of dimension to the card. Once I had everything in place I added my sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set. This is the perfect set because it has sentiments for every occasion possible. I staggard them three times like the sketch. Sometimes you don’t have to have a lot of punched out pieces. Sometimes you just need to let the main focal image do it’s job and draw the viewer into the card. My card front was layered onto a Bermuda Bay mat cut at 5 1/4 x 4 and this was layered onto my Calypso Coral Card base.
Since this card will be going to my sweet niece for here wedding I had to have something on the inside. Because, what’s a card without having a message or something on the inside right? I cut a piece of whisper white cardstock down to 4 x 5 1/4 and went back to my background stamp. I inked it up again in Powder Pink (a new 2017-2019 InColor) and stamped it off. Now when I stamp the image I will have a second generation image. At this point I went ahead and stamped the second generation image in the center.
Now I had to have a sentiment for the inside. I then pulled out a new stamp set (that I won at OnStage in Savannah in April) called Special Celebrations. This is a wonderful new stamp set that everyone has been asking for. This set not only has sentiments for the outside of your cards but wonderful inside sentiments too. And, another plus with this stamp set is the fonts match the outside sentiment.
I stamped the sentiment that I picked with Peekaboo Peach classic ink (a 2016-2018 InColor) in the center of my second generation dahlia. I just love how it turned out. And, the script font matched the outside sentiment. What a happy accident. As Charlie Sheen would say “Winning!” This finished off the inside of my card, and almost brought the card to completion. But, it just needed one more little thing to really finish it off and bring it over the top. What do you think that could be?
Well if you are thinking “Rick, what in the world are you going to put it in? A card like that for such a special occasion just can not go in a plain envelope.” You would be correct! I had to come up with something to make my envelope match my card. So what to do what to do? Well, you take you background stamp and stamp the dahlia on it of course. I stamped it three times on the flap of the envelope. I used three of the colors from my card. I stamped it first in Powder Pink, then in Peekaboo Peach and finished it off with Calypso Coral. I stamped the big background flower, well actually just pieces of it, on my envelope and it was just what this card needed.
I am very happy with how the card and envelope came out and I think that my niece and her future husband will like it as well. Here’s a look at the colors that I used for my card.
These colors and the combination of colors just make you happy, and since it’s Spring and flowers are all in bloom there are prefect for any card that you create with flowers. If you look around in nature you will see most of these colors everywhere you turn. So they were the perfect combination for my card today that features not one but two flowers.
