Hello stampers crafter and friends; I hope that you are having a wonderful day so far. Today is Wednesday and you know what that means it’s time for the next Paper Craft Crew’s new sketch challenge. This week’s sketch challenge is super fun and if you don’t play along you may be a square. Okay, so this weeks challenge is all about square cards. I had to pull out one of my favorite stamp sets for this challenge. Here’s a look at my card for today.
And, here’s a look at this weeks sketch.
This weeks sketch is a fun sketch and was a joy to work with. Like I said above I knew right of the bat that I wanted to use one of my favorite stamp set from the Occasions catalog. I had to use the Carousel Birthday set, I have been dying to make the ferris wheel card with some dimension, so this was my chance.
Tips & Tricks:
I stamped the ferris wheel in So Saffron Classic ink first on the piece of designer series paper I picked from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack. Next I stamped it in the same color, but before stamping it down I used my Bermuda Bay and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Markers on the cupcakes (seats of the ferris wheel.) To get a nice impression I had to go back after inking it in the So Saffron ink and blot them off because I had just reinked my pad; so this changed the colors of my ink that I put down with the markers. So by cleaning them off it made everything work. After inking the stamp up and stamping it on Very Vanilla cardstock I ran it through the Big Shot with the Layering Circle Framelits dies. While I was running this through I ran the matching scalloped circle and the smallest circle through also with the Bermuda Bay glimmer paper from the 6×6 Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack from Sale-A-Bration. Once this was complete I attached it to the glimmer paper using fast fuse. I sat this to the side for the time being, to work on the cupcakes again. Once I cut it out using the framelits I needed to redo the cupcakes because the circle framelit cut off the cupcakes just slightly. So I restamped the cupcake tops on some scrap cardstock using the Bermuda Bay marker and the Up & Away thinlits. The Up & Away thinlits not only has it’s own wonderful uses but they also have a tiny thinlit made to work with this stamp set also. The funny little cloud was designed to cut out the cupcake tops also.
I pulled my colors for this card from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack. This paper features some bright bold colors as well as some soft warm colors as well. This color combination in this stack gives a vintage feel as well as the designs that are packed full in this stack. I picked the pattern with the small polka dots (2 1/2 x 4 1/4) in Bermuda Bay, Early Espresso, and So Saffron with a Very Vanilla base. Since I knew I was using a Calypso Coral cardbase (4 1/4 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4), I knew these colors would match perfectly since all these colors were in the Designer Series Paper Stack. As I mentioned before I did use some of glimmer paper that was one of the items that was offered as one of the free Sale-a-bration items in February. I used it in the small circle pictured here and behind the ferris wheel. Sadly this item is no longer available. The supplies have been depleted as of Monday, and since we are in the last month of this promotion all items are while they last. But, Stampin’ Up! did announce today that they have added seven new items to the Sale-a-bration selections for the last 1o days you can see them here. The sentiment I picked for the front of the card came from the Super Duper Stamp set in the Occasions catalog. This was just one of the stamps from that set. It features some an aesthetic that is both timeless and age-adaptive, this super duper stamp set will dazzle anyone who has a birthday or reason to celebrate.
