Hello stampers and crafters I hope that you are having a good morning. This is my second post of the day, my first was for the Blogging Friends Blog Hop. Today I am using the Big On Birthday Stamp set from the Occasions catalog. I picked this stamp set for the stamp that I am using today. I have a friend that I worked with until recently, that everytime she would say or do something ditzy I would tell her this phrase, our relationship is more of a big brother little sister relationship. She dated a guy at the time that said this to her, and it stuck. So her birthday is only a few days after mine, so I went a head and made her birthday card, and I had to use this stamp. Every time she would say or do something we just looked at each other and said this, and laughed and laughed. Here’s a look at today’s card.
For this weeks challenge at the Paper Craft Crew we are doing a Tic Tac Toe challenge. A tic tac toe challenge works just like a game of tic tac toe, you pick three items in a row either across, down one side, of diagonal. These challenges can be fun to do, but sometimes a little hard. But, things that are hard are usually worth doing right! So I picked the three items that I wanted to use from the challenge card. Here’s a look at this weeks challenge card.
I had wanted to use the Sale-A-Bration stamp set Delicate Details for awhile and haven’t had the right card to use it on it. So this weeks challenge was perfect, since it had Lace listed as one of the items. This stamp set is so pretty, each design is based on a type of lace pattern. There are five different lace patterns in this stamp set that you can earn for free, with a $50 purchase in my online store.
Since I knew which stamp sets I wanted to use I then started picking my color pallet. Which was not as easy as I thought. I started out with one color thinking I wanted to use it but decided that the direction I was headed was not correct with the image that I was getting. So I decided to change some of my original ideas and changed up somethings. During this process I started asking some questions about what I was doing, and I came up with a few answers that also changed my card for today. If I changed the sentiment on the front and the inside my card today could very easily be changed to a wedding card.
For this weeks card I used the Falling in Love cardstock pack, this allowed me three different colors to chose from. And it matched the colors used in the Falling In Love Designer Series Paper. Yes I am using a lot of product form the Falling In Love Suite from the new Occasions catalog. It is a wonderful suite that can be used for so many different occasions.
Tips & Tricks:
I picked the the Falling in Love Cardstock pack because It had all the colors that I needed in one pack of paper. It comes with three different colors that match the Falling In Love Designer Series paper. I picked the designer series paper because it had this wonderful photorealistic print of Lace. I needed a little more lace then just the lace that I stamped using the Delicate Details stamp set. So the cardstock pack was a great way to have the color coordination without a lot of fuss trying to find each color in the paper. So I always urge clients to get the coordinating cardstock pack if they purchase the designer series paper, It gives you enough paper to get started for a less expensive price.
So many designs, so many colors, so many uses. Each sheet is double sided for double the creative options. This designer series paper features both photorealistic, bokeh photography, and some plain patterns as well. Coordinating colors: Blushing Bride, Sahara Sand, Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum, Very Vanilla
Since these colors are in the paper I picked them to create my card with. My cardbase is in Blushing bride and I used the Sahara Sand and Soft Sky as layering pieces. Very Vanilla is the what I stamped the focal image on using Blushing Bride classic ink. While we are talking about the focal image, if you notice the front of the card you notice that it has torn edges. When you are doing this you will want to hold the image in your nondominant hand for me it’s my left, and pull toward you with your right. This will allow you more control when tearing the edges.
I switched out the sequins in the list for the sparkle of the Falling in Love Embellishments. These embellishments features 12 Very Vanilla metal embellishments with jewel accents in the shape of flowers. This added just enough sparkle to the card that it didn’t over power the focal point on the front or the designer series paper.
For the inside of the card I went a little different. I wanted to stamp the lace from the Delicate details stamp set as well as one of the Happy Birthday sentiment from Big on Birthdays. But I wanted to stamp on the Sahara Sand cardstock instead of very vanilla. The only thing was I still wanted it to pop and not suck in to the cardstock to much. So in order to do this I had to stamp the images first in whisper white craft ink. I heat set the craft ink because it is a dye based ink so it dries very slowly. Once the ink was completely dried I reinked the images and using pink pirouette and blushing bride ink to create a ombre effect. In order to create this image I did use a stamp positioner. This made it much easier than trying to line up everything again.
