Hello stampers, crafters, and friends, I hope that you are having a wonderful day on this sunny morning here in Alabama. It feels like springtime here even though we are still in the mist of Winter. The official day of Spring is not until March 26, and we are all longing for those beautiful days of budding flowers and the birds chirping. I have been watching the change of season the last few weeks and the birds have started returning, and this has inspired my card today.
To create today’s card I used the Best Birds stamp set and the Petals Burst embossing folder along with the Birds and Blooms thinlit dies. I stamped the bird in Basic Black archival ink and colored it with my stampin’ write markers and softened everything with a blender pen. I stamped the background square using the burlap textured stamp in the set in Soft Sky Classic ink on Soft Sky cardstock to create a tone on tone look. Once the bird and branch had dried I used the Birds and Blooms thinlits and cut them both out using the big shot. To keep the spring theme going I used the textured impression embossing folder Petals Burst to add a little more texture to the card. I wanted this on just a thin strip of cardstock, and not the whole thing because it adds more of a focal point and draws the eye back to the main image.
By having the embossed cardstock in this one area it keeps the eye drawn back to the main part of the image while the plain cardstock lets the eye rest. The emboss area draws you back to the focal area when ever your eyes hit it. You are drawn right back to the bird. To add more interest to this area I popped the bird up using Stampin’ Dimensionals. This allowed for the banner to be placed in the background of the square without intruding with the bird.
I picked a color combination that reminded me of Spring. All these colors are bright and cheerful. I don’t think that I could have picked a more springy color combination than this. These colors just remind me so much of spring from the leaves budding, the sky changing from a gray blue to a soft blue, and the Blushing Bride reminds me of spring flowers and cherry blossoms blooming.
