Hello stamper and crafters today’s card features the Birthday Blooms stamp set from the Annual catalog. This was a carryover set from last years Occasions catalog. And I am so glad it did. I just love this big bold flower from this set. It’s perfect for so many different coloring techniques and occasions.
Since this card was for a very good friend that loves flowers it was perfect for her Birthday card. So I started to work designing her special card. I knew that I wanted it to be something nice, and that would fit her. So the Birthday Bloom stamp set was the perfect choice. I also knew that I wanted to try some Alcohol markers on a card, so why not jump in on this one since the flower in the card is such a good image to color. So with everything planned out; well as much as I plan anything out that it. Here’s the card that I created for her Birthday.
I stamped this card in Memento Tuxedo Black knowing that I was going to color it with my new Spectrum Noir markers. I don’t have every color but I did buy a few of the starter sets to play with. Alcohol markers are a new medium for me to play with so I had to give it a try and since Stampin’ Up! no longer has their Blendablities I used what I had. I have been watching a lot of videos on coloring with alcohol markers and I am by no means an expert on the subject but I did want to give them a try so I purchased a couple sets of different colors just to test out. I did find that they are not to hard to use but having a color chart really helps greatly. But I don’t think that my example turned out to bad.
The range of colors in the sets were not bad at all. I did have a couple colors that matched Sweet Sugar Plum cardstock that I was planning on using on my card. So it matched pretty nicely. I was presently surprised at how well and close the colors were.
After I colored my image I did go back in to it with some Prismacolor pencils to add a little more shadows and high lights here and there. After this was done it was time to add some more details on this card and to finish it up. So I added tiny little water drops on the flowers and leaves using the fine tip glue pen. Now looking back at the photo above I could have added some to the center of the flower as well to create a little dimension there as well. Well that will be for another card.
To add a little bit more to the single layer card I then went in with some Sweet Sugar Plum Classic ink and used the dot image in the stamp set and added some little confetti dots throughout the card layer. Staying to the same side as the flowers are on. Next to add just a little more sparkle and shine I used some of the Fancy Frost Sequins from the Holiday Catalog.
To finish off the card and get it read to mail, I still needed a sentiment on the outside. So I cut a strip of Sweet Sugar Plum cardstock down to 1/2 to 3/4″ x 4″ and used some White embossing powder and heat embossed the sentiment dear friend on this strip and then attached it to the front panel. I then attached the panel to my Whisper White Thick A2 size card base (cut at 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2) using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Since this was such a simple card I wanted it to pop (no pun intended) a little bit more so that it would draw the eye to the flowers and not the flat white on white card. Using the Dimensionals helps to draw so much interest to any card. These are something I have found I can not live without, I almost always throw a pack on two onto my orders. Here’s a look at the final card again.
